CSPD Explores Global Innovation and the Launch of ISC’s REFLEX Mechanical Hitch

In November, CSPD Director Alex and General Manager Brendon travelled to Düsseldorf, Germany, to attend the A+A Trade Fair – the world’s leading exhibition for safety, security and health at work. Recognised globally as the premier event for industry innovation, A+A 2025 once again delivered an impressive showcase of technology, expertise and emerging thinking under its guiding theme: “People Matter.”

Across 13 exhibition halls, a remarkable 2,340 exhibitors from 70 countries presented cutting-edge products, systems and solutions shaping the future of workplace health and safety. They were joined by more than 67,000 trade visitors from 150 nations, all seeking insight into the next generation of safety technology.

For Alex and Brendon, being on the ground was an invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in global advancements, connect with industry leaders, and bring home ideas and inspiration to support CSPD’s partners across Australia.

Among the many standout innovations unveiled at the fair, one announcement in particular captured the team’s attention: the release of ISC Wales’ new REFLEX Mechanical Hitch.

Introducing the ISC REFLEX Mechanical Hitch

Developed to elevate the efficiency and adaptability of modern climbing systems, ISC’s REFLEX Mechanical Hitch represents a significant shift from traditional friction hitch setups, delivering smooth control, mechanical consistency and remarkable ease of use.

A True Mid-Line Attachable Device

One of the REFLEX’s key breakthroughs is its mid-line attachability. Unlike many devices requiring the climber to feed an entire length of rope through the unit, the REFLEX allows the rope to be dropped straight into place without cutting labels, threading metres of line or interrupting workflow.

This design offers meaningful advantages:

  • Faster setup at any point during a climb
  • Quick installation and removal without rope handling hassles
  • Effortless limb-passing and canopy manoeuvres
  • Cleaner transitions for both MRT and SRT configurations

Mechanical Precision with Familiar Handling

Engineered for progressive friction control, the REFLEX provides a smooth, predictable feel that closely mirrors hitch-cord systems, making it intuitive for seasoned climbers while offering the reliability of a mechanical device.

Its design incorporates:

  • A safety-lock swing frame
  • L-shaped links allowing the rope to be helically wound through the system
  • A secure top-link latch that keeps the rope fully captivated

This innovative link structure ensures consistent friction management without relying on additional friction hardware.

Optimised for MRT and SRT Climbing

SRT climbers in particular will appreciate the simplified, compact system (no Wrench or Tether required) while still enjoying responsive slack payout and friction control.

For users who prefer a customised configuration, the REFLEX includes dedicated attachment points compatible with the ISC APEX and FLEX Tethers, enabling smooth transitions between climbing styles and friction profiles.

Built for Rescue Capability

With a 200kg rescue load rating, the REFLEX is fully capable of supporting emergency operations without extra friction-modulating equipment. When paired with the APEX and FLEX Tether, users can achieve even greater control where additional modulation is beneficial.

Looking Ahead

The A+A Trade Fair continues to be a pivotal event for CSPD, giving our team firsthand access to the technologies shaping the future of safe work. ISC’s REFLEX Mechanical Hitch is a perfect example of the kind of innovation driving our industry forward – smart, adaptable solutions that support climbers with improved safety, efficiency and performance.

We’re excited to share more insights and product developments with our community as they emerge. If you’d like to learn more about the REFLEX or upcoming product releases, the CSPD team is here to help.
